When Nere discovers that she is one of a group of kids who, without their knowledge or consent, have been genetically designed to survive underwater, she starts a fast-paced adventure. Although she harbors resentment at being kept in the dark, her discovery explains her longtime comfort and communication with her dolphins. Her journey to a “safe harbor” is filled with danger from the sea, the government, and other kids just like her.
