Seventeen-year-old Hayley’s mother died when she was small, and her father is a veteran of the Iraq and Afghan wars. After driving an 18-wheeler with Hayley in tow for years, they have now settled down in their old hometown. Unused to a traditional upbringing, Hayley is struggling both with adjusting to going to high school and dealing with her father’s PTSD. After she meets Finn, a classmate with his own secret problems, the reader begins to realize that Hayley has issues of her own to deal with from the past.
