Bruised

Sarah Skilton

Fiction

In a diner at closing time, 16-year-old Imogen has crawled under the table to escape the notice of the gunman who has just walked in. This comes despite her black belt in Tae Kwan Do. Over the course of the novel, Imogen struggles to forgive herself for not acting on the years of training she has received in the martial arts studio. Going through periods of anger, shame and anxiety, Imogen must also deal with her conflicted feelings about her parents and brother. Eventually Imogen strikes up a friendship with a new boy at school who was also hiding in the diner, but the effects of PTSD impact this relationship as well.
